changes

many memorial day functional changes have occurred. here:

the second bedroom has been reclaimed as a guest room, moving the daybed/couch and dresser into that space. now guests have a real bed instead of inflatable mattress, and a place to put clothes. it also doubles as a reading space for drew and a hidden computer work area.

Also, beth added to her excessively specific collection (50's animation style animal salt and pepper shakers) with this pair of cats. She also won a pair of squirrels and deer, to arrive later this week.

Lastly, we had Debbie and Geoff over for lunch and scrabble sunday. We'll post those photos shortly. Drew made mexican pie which went perfectly with the frozen strawberry cake dessert.

zoo pictures

weekend

after (we can't remember... months? years?) of compiling gift certificates to the reader's corner - a used book store - we finally used them. friday night was much needed date night. we found six books and happily stuffed ourselves at el mundo. beth ordered spicy bean tacos with veggies, which arrived on a one foot round plate stacked two feet high. or close to it.
click on our flickr picture of new books to see little summaries of each. apparently we are both fated to be social critics, because almost everything we bought came from that section.
today, after beth taught art class, we went to the zappos.com company picnic at the louisville zoo. pictures of animals to follow! what a full day. three hours looking at animals went by like ten minutes. saffi couldn't stop smelling us when we finally got home... must have been the goat petting zoo.

spring cleaning

last night beth started weezing (probably from the cat sleeping in our room), so we decided to clean the entire house, top to bottom. we were astonished at the everyday dirt that had accumulated. but now it is squeaky clean here, even the toilet looks pretty enough for pictures.
it was sunny, saffi sun bathed all morning. we also replanted beth's jade plants who had out grown their pots. for homebodies like us, today has been heavenly.

buddy needs a home

after work drew and i drove to bernheim forest, a preserve not too much farther from louisville. my friend mindy rescued a dog named buddy, who happens to be blind, and is trying to find him a good home. she was so kind and loving towards him. i especially admired her coaxing him to trust her up and down stairs, even though he couldn't see them himself.
